Is God Green?

This weekend, I found myself washing off a paper plate at a friend’s house so i could throw it away! These friend’s of mine are part of neighborhood recycling program – paper and plastic go in one bin, metal in another and food scraps in a third. I don’t know if the plate really had to be washed before we threw it away, but my friend told me i had to. He may have just been messing with me…but, these days, you never know.

I have a hard time figuring out the role Christian’s are supposed to play in ecology and conservation. Are you as confused by the whole thing as I am? i think sometimes we feel like issues like the environment belong to left-wing liberals and “tree-huggers” who will chain themselves to a 100 year old oak tree because a logger is threatening its survival. While this might be an extreme example, it’s no reason to leave environmental responsibility in their hands alone. Shouldn’t Christians really be leading the charge being an example to the world how to treat God’s creation. Afterall He put us in charge of it. Remember when you were a kid and staying over at a friend’s house and your mom told you to leave their house better than you found it. Maybe that’s how we as Christians should approach the issue of our environment – better than we found it.

  2. Great book on the topic:
