JANUARY 24TH – PUTTING OUT THE FUSE men’s event

Posted in man of God on January 14, 2009 by crossingthepursuit

On Saturday, January 24, 2009, from noon-2pm, The Crossing Men’s Ministry is hosting a fellowship event and free luncheon featuring the nationally acclaimed professional comedian and speaker, Jerry Miner.

Jerry has appeared on over 20 national TV programs from Comedy Central and Arts & Entertainment to ESPN, HBO, NBC and FOX. As a successful comedy writer, Jerry has worked with other well-known comics such as Jay Leno, Ellen DeGeneres, Anthony Clark, Kevin Pollack, Bill Cosby and Rich Hall.

In this featured event, Jerry discusses his struggles with anger as a Christian man, husband and father.  The theme of his talk is Proverbs 29:11 “A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.”  Jerry offers an honest, self deprecating look at anger and the ongoing struggle for many men from all walks of life.

Food for the luncheon will be provided by Buffalo Wild Wings, Marcos Pizza and more!

Please join us for fellowship, free food, laughs and a deeper understanding of stuff men need as they strive to become better men, husbands and fathers! WE NEED TO GET A HEADCOUNT, so reply to Jamel at  J.RAMZI@HOTMAIL.COM or SIGN UP AT THE NEXT STEPS TABLE ON SUNDAY so we know how much food to get.

Men Helping the Homeless THIS SATURDAY

Posted in Engaging Culture, man of God on January 12, 2009 by crossingthepursuit

Men of The Crossing, this month we have a great serving opportunity to participate with the Calvary Downtown Outreach.  Every 3rd Saturday of the month The Crossing is a sponsor of the program.  This is an excellent serving opportunity to help our valley community by participating at the outreach.  It also is an occasion where we can fellowship with the men of our Church and build those key Christ centered relationships we as men need in our lives.

We are planning on meeting at The Crossing at 8:15AM.  Transportation will be provided.  We expect to return to The Crossing at approximately 2:30PM.

If you want to drive on your own, here’s directions:

Take I-15 North To Lake Mead East.  Turn right off of Lake Mead exit and go to stoplight at 5th Street.  Turn left and go about 2 blocks to McGovern Street.  Turn right and go 2 blocks to Christina.  Turn right and go about ½ block to AFE parking lot.  Park anywhere in the parking lot then go through the gate to serve.

Please contact Scott Whaley at swhaley@thecrossingonline.com to confirm your participation.  If you have any questions, please contact Dennis Hale at dennis.hale@cort.com or on his mobile phone at 630.854.9911.

“They desired only that we should remember the poor, the very thing which I also was eager to do”.

The Apostle Paul (Gal. 2:9-10)

We look forward to your participation!

Is God Green?

Posted in spiritual growth on October 21, 2008 by crossingthepursuit

This weekend, I found myself washing off a paper plate at a friend’s house so i could throw it away! These friend’s of mine are part of neighborhood recycling program – paper and plastic go in one bin, metal in another and food scraps in a third. I don’t know if the plate really had to be washed before we threw it away, but my friend told me i had to. He may have just been messing with me…but, these days, you never know.

I have a hard time figuring out the role Christian’s are supposed to play in ecology and conservation. Are you as confused by the whole thing as I am?
